Unidentified Flying Nazis: Saucer Secrets of the Third Reich

For more than 60 years, this idea that the Nazis were involved in saucer technology research has followed a cycle of conspiracy/refutation without ever presenting clear evidence that this was the case.

The German’s were stretched financially and physically in the final years of the WWII. Fighting a double-sided war against the Allies and the Russians were slowly wearing them down. Throughout the war, the German war machine ploughed on with research into Wunderwaffe, which translates as wonder-weapons. One of the better known projects was the V2 rocket, its capabilities were huge but the Allies proved to be the stronger side and effectively dealt with the threat.

Hitler was inclined to allocate stretched resources to research these “miracle projects” but there was a limit to funding and manpower. A good example of a grand Wunderwaffe proposal was the Amerika Bomber research. The German airforce drew up plans to build a squadron of Luftwaffe capable of launching air attacks on the USA - a distance of over 5,000 km. But like so many of Germany’s wonder-weapons, it never moved beyond the drawing board.

There was a certain desperation to the Nazi’s plans for bigger, more powerful weaponry. Much is known about the various Wunderwaffe projects, there is a plethora of documentaries and books on German planes of World War II - especially on their most advanced flying machines, from the Me 262 jet fighter to the V1 and V2 rockets, to the Bachem Natter and the wooden flying wings of the Horten brothers.

There also seems to be a burgeoning industry when it comes to pseudo-documentary videos and DVDs, fictional books and articles on Nazi flying saucer lore. Is it true that the Nazi’s had been working on slightly less conventional designs in their futile race to win the war?

In his book, Hitler’s Flying Saucers, Henry Stevens presents his collected evidence of this esoteric side of Nazi military research. He presents quotes from the engineers who claim they  worked on the project, suggesting the German flying saucers were possible. However, the underlying fact behind this conspiracy is there is no solid evidence. There are vague hints at UFO sightings. Conveniently,  all the blueprints for the saucers disappeared and prototypes were cremated as the war thundered to its conclusion.

The scientists and engineers who worked on the well documented rocket projects were in hot demand post-WIII. Operation Paperclip was a US led initiative for intellectual repartition and it allowed around 1,500 Nazi scientists to gain new identities and work for the US government. But what about the scientists and engineers that didn’t make it to the US?

Nazis. Their role in world history is defined as the greatest villains. Their legacy is dark and evil, that’s a given. But what about their dark secrets that the world didn’t see? There are enough conspiracists out there that believe the war didn’t end with the Russians invading Berlin and a bullet through Hitler’s brain. There’s enough flimsy research out there for you to believe that the Nazi’s fled, en masse, to a secret base in Antarctica and to the sunnier climates of South America -  their mission: to continue their secret work on flying crafts and diabolical weaponary. We’ll be investigating these spurious claims in Part 2...
